RIP Steve Irwin

We’ll miss you, Steve Irwin. Your enthusiasm about the environment was inspirational to the world. Although I am generally not supportive of selling environmentalism through charismatic megafauna, I recognize that it can work. And you were pretty much the best at it. So, rest in peace, and I hope that one of your colleagues is able to avenge your death by hunting down that sting ray, Steve Zissou style.

What a shame! Jim and I just found out this morning. Didn’t see it on the German news on Monday.

It’s crazy. It was the number one headline here on Monday, but I guess you were a bit occupied with leaving the country! I never realized how much I cared about Steve Irwin till he died… But actually, I was addicted to Animal Planet for a few months there back in 2003, and “Crocodile Hunter: The Early Years” was always a good watch!

I think Steve would have gotten the joke. To any fan of nature television or documentary, I highly recommend watching The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
